While we’re beginning to reach the tail-end of a whirlwind year of stress and health concerns, Fitbit has announced it’s latest technology to track and manage your health, and it’s pretty neat. The benefits of the new hardware, named “Fitbit Sense”, seem endless. Packed with new features and sensors, the Fitbit Sense incorporates inspiration from old models while adding some groundbreaking new components. Let’s explore some of the reasons this new technology is seriously impressing fitness enthusiasts.

The Fitbit Sense puts a spotlight on the importance of tracking not only physical health, but mental health. Included in the new model is an EDA monitor, short for electrodermal activity. In simpler terms, this technology is able to track your stress levels through sensors that pick up electrical currents throughout your skin. By tracking the amount of stress you experience, the Fitbit is then able to provide you with stress-reduction tips and tricks. All Fitbit users will have access to a mindfulness feature in-app, which allows you to log your mood and provides meditation strategies and tracking. With stay-at-home orders and mental health concerns running rampant this year, motivation is at an all time low, and stress is at an all time high. The ability to track and hold yourself accountable for daily mental health exercises is a must-have.

Along with the new EDA monitor comes another new sensor in the Fitbit Sense, ECG. ECG stands for electrocardiogram, which measures atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rate) and gets an overall sense of your heart health. By placing your fingers on the sides of the device, it is able to gauge your heart rate and send the data straight to your phone. You can even share the data with your doctor. This new model of Fitbit debuts the new PurePulse 2.0 technology, containing an all-new multi-path heart rate sensor and updated algorithm. Essentially, the Fitbit Sense gives you the most in-depth and accurate information on your heart health than ever before from a wearable device.

Aside from these new features added, the Fitbit Sense has all the features users already know and love, such as sleep tracking and goal-based exercises. Other features in the new device include menstrual health tracking, built in Google “Alexa”, Fitbit Pay, and a battery life lasting over 6 days. If you still aren’t totally sold on investing in a wearable health-tracking device, let’s weigh out the benefits of the new hardware.

Of course, you can always google exercises, use a free app to track your steps, or head to the doctor to get an assessment of your heart health. However, the Fitbit Sense makes it easy— all of this is accessible from your wrist and a single app on your mobile device. It provides the ability to hold yourself accountable by allowing you to set reminders and establish daily goals for yourself. When you’re out of the house and start feeling an overwhelming amount of stress or anxiety, you can instantly track your stress levels and get a quick tip on how to relax. With the incorporation of ECG and PurePulse 2.0, this hardware also has potentially life-saving abilities, notifying you if your heart rate is cause for concern.

The Fitbit Sense is currently available for preorder at fitbit.com, with its official release on September 25th. If you’ve ever wanted to invest in a wearable health device, this is definitely the one to consider.
